Ingredients

  • 28 oz Can Whole Peeled Tomatoes (San Marzano)
  • 2 Tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 3 Cloves Fresh Garlic, Minced
  • 1 Teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • 1 Teaspoon Dried Basil
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes (Optional)
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Sea Salt (to taste)
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Granulated Sugar (Optional)

Method

  1. Prepare your work area and open the can of whole peeled tomatoes. Crush them into small pieces in a bowl.
  2. In a medium-sized saucepan over medium-low heat, add the olive oil. Once shimmering, add the minced garlic and sauté for about one minute.
  3. Pour the crushed tomatoes into the pan with the garlic and oil. Stir to combine.
  4. Add the dried oregano, dried basil, onion powder, red pepper flakes, salt, and optional sugar. Increase heat until bubbling, then reduce to low.
  5. Simmer uncovered for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning as needed.
  6. Once desired consistency is reached, remove from heat and let cool before using.

Notes

Use high-quality San Marzano tomatoes for the best flavor. Allow the sauce to cool to room temperature before spreading on pizza dough.
